Covid-19 and Plans for YSP 2020

“My life goes on in endless song
Above earth’s lamentation
I hear the real, though far-off hymn
That hails a new creation

Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear its music ringing
It sounds an echo in my soul
How can I keep from singing?”

YSP students have always found reasons to sing, and now is no different. These days are being called “unprecedented” and “uncharted,” and even though we are physically distant from one another, the YSP community knows how to connect, and how to keep singing. We spend 51 weeks apart each year, making our reunion so much more joyful. We face uncertainties, and sometimes unforeseen challenges with little time to adapt, and still we succeed. We may feel insecure or unsure of ourselves, but God shows us year after year that we are not alone, and that we are individually gifted and community-wide stronger than we could have imagined.

Now is no different. Jesus remains our reason for hope. Community—taking shape to support and protect one another in creative, self-sacrificing ways—is proof of God’s love in action among us.

Cognizant of the serious health threats and social constraints we are facing in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, but ever holding onto one another, and to hope in God’s promise, we are deciding how to proceed for YSP 2020.

As of March 28, 2020, we are hopeful of producing “Just Pretend” in June during our usual week together (June 20-28).

  • We will continue to accept participant applications for YSP 2020 until May 15. If you find yourself with an abundance of time at home, and a growing brilliance in producing videos, now is the perfect time to work on your application and audition video. Some modifications to the application process will be made to accommodate our stay-at-home circumstances. Check the application for full instructions.
  • If contagion continues to necessitate caution in regards to gatherings and events, we will decide by June 1 if we are to cancel the YSP camp/retreat and performance.
  • Until that time, no payments are due. You risk nothing to apply.
  • If we are able to move forward with YSP, we will require payments in part or in full between May 16 and June 15.
  • YSP takes very seriously the health and safety of its participants. We will take careful precautions to ensure a healthy environment that is clean, and lodging, eating and rehearsing quarters that are safe. More information will be made available prior to arrival.

If you have any questions or require any support from the YSP staff or family, please reach out. Know that you are on our minds and in our prayers, until we meet again! Keep singing!

“No storm can break my inmost calm
While to that rock I’m clinging
For Love is Lord of heaven and earth
How can I keep from singing?”
